Unlike other political parties, Stalybridge Town Party Councillors would be free to vote as individuals and with the wishes of the residents of Stalybridge Town.
Not all decisions made in the Council Chamber are about Stalybridge and some Councillors vote based on their own political ideology and conscience. Therefore, even if the individual Councillor may not agree with their party's proposals they are asked to vote on party lines and may actually vote for something that might not be the benefit of that Councillors own town and it's Residents.
This is what happened regarding the sale of the only public car park in the centre of town; The now Aldi car park in the Dukinfield & Stalybridge ward.
The Labour candidate standing for election in Dukinfield & Stalybridge ward voted in favour of that sale, totally ignoring the wishes of his residents and a petition raised to reject the proposal.
This scenario does happen, and without change, will continue to do so again and again. Vote for David McGovern in Dukinfield & Stalybridge ward.
Vote for Lee Stafford in Stalybridge North ward.
